This is the ideal time for someone to take on the role of Head of Planning, Sustainability and Infrastructure here at Basingstoke and Deane. The council is just about to embark on the initial stages of our new Local Plan so this is an opportunity to set the planning strategy for the coming years.
This is a role that will appeal to a strategically minded planning professional, who can add value at both an operational and strategic level. There’s a quality assurance role to play – but the considerable professional expertise within the team enables an environment of delegated autonomy and creates the space for this person to add real value at a strategic level. You can expect extensive contact outside of the organisation, working in partnership across the wider region on infrastructure planning and development. And as the lead officer on the council’s Climate Change agenda there will be real scope to bring about innovation and new ways of working, in an area of increased scrutiny and attention.
Basingstoke and Deane operates on a much larger scale that many other comparable local authorities, so you’ll need to ensure that you have an informed appreciation of what makes this job different. And what makes it so attractive to the right person.
